As an artist my objectives include clarifying my perceptions, being stretched, and having fun. I enjoy working in a variety of media, but have found clay to be what I return to again and again. With clay comes the allure of pushing and pulling, the fight for balance and control, and of learning when to stop, as this complex medium encourages endless loops of interaction. Sculptural and functional objects of clay, ceramic and mixed media jewelry, textiles, and book making are ways of working that I have been drawn to over the years. My newest venture is clay mono-printing. Represented here are both clay and inked mono-prints. The clay monoprints are made by creating clay “plate” onto which colored liquid clays are laid down. An industrial fabric product is the “paper” onto which the image is transferred. The liquid clay image is married into this fabric through friction, and the end product is as durable as any painted canvas or print. The inked mono-prints are rendered in a more traditional process, using a press and standard artist papers.
